After his return on the Gripsholm in December 1943, George E Costello submitted a report on the organization of "Camp Stanley" and its camp life in general to the Department of External Affairs in Ottawa, Canada.
George Edward Costello worked as a shipping agent many years for Canadian Pacific in Hong Kong. He was a civilian prisoner of the Japanese in Hong Kong during WW II. He was returned to the US as part of a civilian prisoner exchange with Japan. He traveled on the MS Gripsholm after exchange at Goa and reached New York City in Dec 1943. He eventually retired to Victoria, BC, Canada where he died 15 Feb 1973.

Assigned to Hong Kong in 1926, George E Costello returned to Hong Kong in 1949 to his former post of general agent of Canadian Pacific Steamships.
