If you zoom in between the brick house (today’s Peak Lookout) and the first group of coolies on the right, there appears to be a small horse or pony’s head in front of a carriage.
I’ve read somewhere that the Peak Lookout used to be a stable situated beside a resting place for sedan bearers, but I haven’t seen any actual photos confirming this.
Could the straw hut behind the brick house have been a toilet facility? If so, the modern toilets at Peak Lookout Café are probably located in roughly the same spot or nearby.
One more question: Do you have any idea where the photos were taken from? Luguard Road seems too far away, and to my knowledge, in the 1920s there were no zoom cameras, drones, or helicopters. Plus, the clarity of the picture makes it unlikely to be from a direct aerial shot.
Sorry, I don’t know anything about horses or ponies on the Peak or the function of the matshed. As the photo was taken from approximately the same level as the Chair Shelter, it was probably taken from somewhere on Harlech Road.

Chef Hans,
